Microchip and canine registration

According to Regional Laws 43/85, 90/98, and 41/02, each municipality has established a Canine Register.

All owners and keepers of dogs, regardless of the title, must ensure that their dogs are registered with the Canine Register within 60 days of the animal’s birth (or within 15 days of acquiring the dog).

Dog identification in the Canine Register is carried out by implanting a microchip in the left side of the neck.

Unlike the old tattoo method, the microchip does not deteriorate over time.

The microchip does not cause adverse reactions, remains in place, and is unchanged for the dog's entire life. It can be read using a special device called a microchip reader, which needs only to be brought close to the injection site.

The implantation of the microchip is very straightforward and does not cause pain to the dog.

For registration with the Canine Register and microchip implantation, the dog must be accompanied by its rightful owner, who must present the following documents:

    • Valid identification document of the dog’s owner
    • Tax code card of the dog’s owner
    • Dog’s vaccination booklet

Registrations are processed from Monday to Saturday between 10:00 and 18:00.

Microchip and feline registration

The National Association of Veterinarians, in collaboration with Front Line Combo, has established the NATIONAL FELINE REGISTER, a national database where you can register your microchipped cats.

The service aims to:

  • Support the monitoring of feline demographics
  • Combat abandonment
  • Facilitate reuniting lost cats with their owners

Our Veterinary Clinic is available to all cat owners for microchip identification and the online registration of their owned or entrusted cats.
